These fascinating pieces of art are crafted by indigenous Wayuu women inhibiting the visually striking desert of the La Guajira Peninsula, which borders Northeastern Colombia and Northwest Venezuela.  

Wayuu women are responsible for their household.  They are only able to crochet in between their household responsibilities which means a single bag, depending on design details and size, can take 15-30 days, on average, to make.  Weavers also have different skill levels so some may take more or less time to finish a bag, depending on the size, design complexity, and skill of the weaver. The symbolic patterns and colors represent their culture and environment.  Every bag is carefully crocheted and "made with love in every thread". 

CLEANING:  Turn bag inside out and if accessorized with tassels or balls, put them inside the bag.  Pull the bag closed, and machine wash in cold water on a delicate cycle.  If your bag is accessorized with tassels, brush them while still damp.  Hang to dry.
